Reflections on Greece
You might say we are traveling fools because we traveled to Greece in August! We were there August 2-21, 2023. So were a lot of other people enjoying the hot, perfect weather — we like it like that! Our cradle of civilization itinerary was coordinated so as to end up in Turkiye by a certain day to begin our packaged archeological tour. We know exploring Greece in May and October are more ideal times. We still enjoyed (almost) every minute.
Perhaps our favorite place was Athens! We love big cities and there was lots to do. It helped we stayed in a top-notch, expertly managed boutique hotel. Our (off-beat) island visit choices of Antiparos and Folegandros were brilliant. However the summer island ferry system was operating at or beyond full capacity making things a little chaotic. In the end, the epic food and museums made up for the peak summer pitfalls. And exactly how can the Greek sea waters be that blue?! Stunning.

We stayed two nights mid-August 2023 in a Junior Suite at GDM Megaron Hotel ($239 /night) including breakfast. Perfect location to walk to the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, our main interest to stay in the city. Beautiful hotel.
